Case Management, Version 4.0, CM 6 -- Case Manager Supervisor Qualifications

The Basics

This standard set forth qualifications for case management supervisors.  A supervisor must meet the qualifications of a Case Manager, as described in CM 4.  In addition, if the supervisor has 3 years of supervisory experience at the CM program, he/she should have CM certification.

Management Tips

In this case, "supervision" means oversight of the program itself, not of the administrative (e.g., HR or IT) aspects of the program.

URAC Accreditation Tips

The element requiring the supervisor to meet the qualifications of a case manager is mandatory.  The other element is weighted 4.

The documentation for desktop review is straightforward:

  • Job description
  • Current CM department organization chart
  • The P&P for credentials verification (probably the same one you used for Core 30).

Simply having your CM manager meet these qualifications is not sufficient -- you must have the requirement in the job description itself.

The onsite reviewer will verify compliance with this standard as she's verifying all the other personnel records standards.  She also will ask the supervisor questions such as:

  • What licensure and certification do you have?
  • How long have you been in this supervisory position?
