URAC Wellness Standard 5 -- Health Screenings
This standard, modified in important ways in the public comment period, applies only if health screenings are offered to the target population. In that event, the wellness program must use the screenings to identify health problems and to direct, as appropriate, consumers to seek needed health care or wellness services.
This standard carries a weight of 3.
The purposes of such screenings include raising awareness, recruiting participants into wellness programs, and helping both the participant and the wellness organization during interventions.
What, precisely, would be addressed in such health screenings? They might include (but would not be limited to) blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and height.
Remember that this would be an "N/A" standard for organizations who are not contracted to provide screenings with follow-up referral care.
A P&P describing the screening-referral process will suffice for the desktop review. The onsite review will look for indicia of implementation, such as documentation in case files that consumers were referred for appropriate follow-up services following a health screening.
